DB Deventer wins Digital Library of the Year Award 2011

The Award for the Digital Library of the Year is awarded to the Public Library Deventer. The Award, an initiative of the Digital Library journal, was awarded on March 31, 2011 at the Congress DB Update 2011 in Rotterdam. The prize is awarded annually to those (public, academic, business) libraries in the Netherlands where analog and digital sources are available full advice is given to the consistent use regardless of time and place.

This year, three institutions were nominated for the prize: Public Library Enschede, Deventer and the Public Library Central Medical Library of the UMCG in Groningen. The jury is the Digital Library of the Year an active library, it changes, investing in contributing to national renewal, but also seeks co-operation. The jury therefore DB Deventer named Digital Library of the Year 2011.

From the jury: OB Deventer is known for the introduction of the white label site, but digital innovation draws considerably wider than that site. The library has a nice wiki set up to actively track and pointing to files and collections in the digital files. Deventer dares to experiment to go around serious gaming, which last year a prize is won. Cooperation with a partner as a book of love is not avoided and the project plans of OB Deventer shows that a number of initiatives, preferably at a higher level and be rolled out nationwide. We said it all, no library is ideal at the moment, so can some Deventer to improve the visibility of social media and blogging is not yet active.

The Audience Award, this year the first award, went to Public Library Enschede with 53 percent of the votes cast. Nearly 900 votes were cast. In 2010 the Digital Library of the Year Award to the library of the Peace Palace in The Hague.
